The lava did not obey this stop sign, apparently. There are still street signs atop the pole.

This house is inhabited. Some guy lives here, in the shadow of the crater. People pay money to spend the night here (you can only get in by helicopter). He laughs in the face of danger, until danger melts him with hot lava I guess.

Lava + roads

When the initial eruption happened, the volcano spewed lava over roads in a planned (and somewhat developed) housing community. The roads are still there, and some of the houses, but not the people.
